In a year full of disgusting and hateful political speech, the Republican Governor of Mississippi still managed to take the “debate” to a new, horrific low:
Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant (R), in defending his decision to sign a bill that could shut down Mississippi’s only abortion clinic, told conservative radio host Tony Perkins on Tuesday that Democrats’ “one mission in life is to abortion children.”
“Even if you believe in abortion, the hypocrisy of the left that now tried to kill this bill, that says that I should have never signed it, the true hypocrisy is that their one mission in life is to abort children, is to kill children in the womb,” he said. “It doesn’t really matter, they don’t care if the mother’s life is in jeopardy, that if something goes wrong that a doctor can’t admit them to a local hospital, that he’s not even board certified.”
Romney will try to make us all forget it over the next few months, but this is the party he threw in his lot with. And note that the outrageous statements aren’t just coming from some powerless fringe members of the GOP. They’re coming from Governors, from Representatives, and from Senators. These are the people who will be empowered if Romney is elected President.
Meanwhile, the Politicos, Fox News, etc… who devoted a week of coverage to a comment a CNN commenter made about Ann Romney, can’t seem to find anywhere to fit a story about a sitting Governor of a state in this country who said that one of the two main political party’s mission is to abort children.
Update: Politico now has a story up.
