Popular And Unthinkable Policies

Bruce Bartlett notes that poll after poll shows majority support for increasing some taxes. The Republican Party is universally opposed and intransigent on this issue, so it can’t happen, despite the lack of benefits from the Bush tax policies and their terrible impact on our future deficits.

So, an unpopular, ineffective, highly expensive policy that the entire Republican Party from top to bottom will go to the mat to support.

Just like they oppose the popular, money-saving public option.

And the popular, bureaucracy-streamlining, liberty-enhancing policy of immigration amnesty.

Why, sometimes it even appears that Republicans don’t really care at all about the deficit, or what the American people think, or rational policymaking!
